Dembe

Dembe (not her real name) is a 40-year old woman who lives in Kampala, Uganda.  Her life has never been easy.   She is a mother of five children.   Polio took her ability to walk.   Living on the streets at times in her life, she secured a tiny home once, only to be sexually assaulted and burglarized when she could not afford a door that locked.   She has no husband or relatives that she knows of.   Recently, she fell ill, and was treated in hospital for malnutrition.   She has no means of support but for street vending small articles of food.   She aspires for a footbridge over one of the many open drainage canals in Katwe, where she can sit and sell her wares.   We want to make a film about Dembe, just because.
